How to Make the Most of Your Family Photo Session
Family photos aren’t just about getting everyone to smile at the same time (though that’s always a win!) — they’re about capturing the love, chaos, and connection that make your crew yours. If you’re booked for a session (or thinking about it), here are a few simple tips to help you get the most out of it — and actually enjoy the process, too.
1. Don’t Stress About Perfection
Real moments are better than perfect ones. Don’t worry if your toddler runs off mid-shot or someone’s hair isn’t just right — those in-between moments often turn into the sweetest photos. Let go of the pressure, and just focus on being together. I’ll guide you the whole way.
2. Dress Comfortably (and Coordinate, Don’t Match)
Choose outfits that feel good and let your personalities shine. You don’t have to match perfectly — think coordinated colors or styles instead. Neutrals, soft tones, and earthy shades always photograph beautifully, and they let the focus stay on you, not the clothes.
3. Plan Around Your Family’s Rhythm
Try to schedule your session at a time when your kids are usually happiest (yes, even if that means a morning shoot!). A little snack beforehand and a well-rested crew can go a long way toward a smooth session.
4. Bring a Few Simple Things
Water, wipes, maybe a favorite toy for your littlest one — those small items can make a big difference if you need a quick reset or distraction. And if we’re shooting outdoors, a blanket is always a great idea!
5. Just Be Yourselves
Tickle fights, snuggles, running around barefoot — bring the energy that makes your family you. I’ll capture the posed photos you want, but I’m also watching for the natural, candid moments you’ll treasure most.
6. Trust the Process
My job is to make your family feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated. So relax, have fun, and let me do the rest. You’re creating memories just by showing up — and I promise, the photos will reflect the beauty in that.
